About me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licenced Marriage and Family Therpaist, a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist, and a Certified Emotionally Focused Supervisor

Philosophy and Approach: Believing in the concept of lifelong learning and growth, my philosophy and approach to counseling continues to unfold; the foundation of my work though, is based on the idea that people are relational by nature. I believe that each person has inherent worth and the capacity to grow toward personal fulfillment. My philosophy encompasses elements of both attachment theory and interpersonal neurobiology. I seek to connect all facets of a person's world (the family they grew up in, their gender, faith, culture, education, age, etc) in bringing about self fulfillment. I personally operate from a Christian worldview, and I am willing to integrate this into therapy as clients wish.

As a therapist, I see my role as a collaborative facilitator of change. I seek to join with clients in a respectful way that acknowledges their own wisdom through practical, supportive, and empathetic connection. I recognize the unique challenges of each individual and system and seek to integrate emotions, thoughts, and actions to enable fuller, happier lives.

Ethical Guidelines: I follow the ethical guidelines set forth by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the Oregon Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.

Education, Training and Experience: I hold a Bachelor's degree in social and Behavioral Studies from George Fox University, and a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from George Fox University. My coursework and study has included specialized focus in couples therapy, individual therapy, play therapy, and trauma. I have experience with intercultural, drug and alcohol, and trauma related issues. I am also a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist, and a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist Supervisor.

Prior to my work in Marriage and Family Therapy, I worked as a teacher with a local school district home school program and as a program coordinator with the same district. I have been married for 40 plus years, have two grown children, and the joy of being a grandparent!
